Raj Reddy
(미국 컴퓨터과학자, 1937~)
AI 기본적 기술 개발(음성인식과 이해, expert systems, robotics 분야), Robotics Institute 설립
Reddy 는 CMU 컴퓨터과학과 의 Herbert A. Simon University Professor of Computer Science and Robotics 이다. 1960-63부터 호주에서 IBM 의 Applied Science 대표로 일했다. 1966 년에 Stanford 의 조교수로 학계에 입문했다. 1969 년 CMU 컴퓨터과학 조교수로 합류하고, 1973 년에 정교수가 되고, 1984 년에 University professor 가 되었다. 1979~1991 년에 Robotics Institute 의 소장으로, 1991~1999 년에는 컴퓨터과학과 학장으로 일했다.
그는 1958 년에 인도의 Madras 대학의 Guindy Engineering College 에서 학사를, 1960 년에 호주의 New South Wales 대학에서 석사를, 1966 년에 Stanford 대학에서 컴퓨터과학으로 박사를 받았다.
그의 주요연구는 human-computer interaction and AI 이며, 최근에는 spoken language systems, gigabit networks, universal digital libraries, distance learning 등의 프로젝트를 포함한다.
그는 IEEE, AAAI, Acoustal Society of America 의 fellow 이며, National Academy of Engineering, American Academy of Arts and Sciences 의 멤버이다. 1987~89 년에 AAAI 회장을 지냈으며, 1991 년에 IBM Research Ralph Gomory Fellow 상을 수상하고, 1994 년에 Turing 상을 수상했다.
